Overview

What Water Purification Involves

Water purification is the process of removing undesirable chemicals, materials and biological contaminants from raw water. The goal is to produce water fit for a specific purpose. Most water is purified for human consumption (drinking water) but water purification may also be designed for a variety of other purposes, including meeting the requirements of medical, pharma, chemical and industrial applications. In general the methods used include physical process such as filtration and sedimentation, biological processes, chemical process such flocculation, chlorination and use of electromagnetic radiation such ultraviolet light. The technologies used for treating the water is highlighted below.

Blueoasis Technologies Ultra Filtration UF system pumps and piping skid

Ultra-Filtration membranes typically have pore sizes in the range of 0.01 – 0.10 µm and have a high removal efficiency for bacteria and most viruses, colloids and silt. The introduction of Ultra-Filtration (UF) as a pre-treatment for Colloidal Silica removal, and tertiary treatment for Recycling plant has resulted in several advantages.

Typical benefits with an UF system include

  • Consistently low SDI in the UF filtrate
  • Significantly reduced RO membrane fouling and cleaning frequency
  • Extended RO membrane life
  • Reliable production of high quality water regardless of raw water turbidity
  • Higher RO membrane flux
  • Smaller footprints, lower land acquisition costs
  • Lower consumption of operational and cleaning chemicals

Blueoasis Technologies offers range of Reverse Osmosis plants to meet industrial and domestic requirements. Blueoasis Technologies strictly designs all its systems as per the guidelines of the membrane manufacturers by utilizing the latest generation spiral wound thin film composite polyamide membranes. These membranes have extremely high resistance to fouling and thereby we could offer the best energy savings RO plants to our customers globally.

The Reverse Osmosis units are designed in a compact skid with easy access to monitoring of check points and sample valves. These features come from the extensive field experience of Blueoasis Technologies in operating and maintaining the plants spread over entire South India. The standard systems are offered with the manual option and field instruments to monitor the performance and necessary safety interlocks to protect the membranes.

Advanced automation packages with PLC based Scada control system which monitors auto flushing, real time logging etc., and provision for either a wired or a remote communication to other locations. Blueoasis Technologies automation packages are user friendly and flexible with respect to data access and data logging. Adequate security features with supervisory control with access codes are also provided.

Approximately 95% of the world's available water reserves consist of seawater containing salt, which is therefore undrinkable. Many countries of the world are suffering from an acute water shortage. Accordingly, the desalination of sea water and brackish water has gained enormous importance and is now a technically and economically recognised method of obtaining clean drinking water and fresh water for industrial operations.

Generally De-Salination is done by the following process

  • Reverse osmosis
  • Thermal desalination
  • Electrodialysis

Blueoasis Technologies supplies Sea Water desalination RO plants in differing sizes for various types of raw water such as sea- and brackish water and industrial effluent. Major attention is paid to economic factors such as chemical consumption, energy recovery, membrane durability and process automation.

Electro deionization process is utilized predominantly for the production of high purity water. EDI is generally used as a post treatment, after a Reverse Osmosis to achieve high purity water. Typically EDI is used to achieve the treated water quality for the following applications.

  • Semi conductor industry production water
  • Printed circuit board manufacturing
  • Solar cell manufacturing
  • Pharma grade water
  • Vaccines
  • Parental
  • Water for Injections

EDI utilizes and operates on the principle of migration of charged ions across a semi-permeable membrane which contains charged resin beds. The migration of membranes is initiated by applying current, by means of cathode and anode. This generates the migration of ions across the oppositely charged membranes. The oppositely charged ions permeate through the charged membranes and collect in the concentrate chamber. A constant flow is maintained in the concentrate chamber to continuously evacuate the ions into the reject stream.

The ultra pure water from the pure water chamber flows out continuously. The reject water is not wasted and is recycled back to the pre-treatment sections.

Blueoasis Technologies offers a range of packaged demineraliser units and custom built demineraliser to meet individual customer requirements. Packaged De-Mineralisers comprise of two pressure vessels in MS / FRP filled with Strong Acid Cation and Strong Base Anion resin respectively. All packaged plants are skid mounted, completely assembled including necessary piping valves, and chemical tanks for regeneration.

Degassifiers

Blueoasis Technologies offers a full range of degassers to suit the packaged and custom built demineraliser. Degassers when installed downstream of the cation unit removes the carbon dioxide thereby reducing the load on the downstream unit. This results in cost savings by way of reduced chemical consumption. Standard units comprise of a Tower in mild steel rubber lined / FRP construction along with a blower and transfer pump in stainless steel construction.

Custom Designed DM Plants

To meet specific customer requirements Blueoasis Technologies offers de-mineralisers incorporating Weak Acid Cation and Weak Base Anion to handle water containing high amounts of alkalinity, chlorides and sulfates. All DM units are available as a manual, semi-auto or full auto options with PLC based control systems. Automatic systems can be easily upgraded to be linked to client DCS if required.

Mixed Bed Demineralisers

Mixed Bed de-mineralisers are used downstream of the DM unit, to achieve high purity levels in the treated water. Mixed bed units comprise of a single vessel with a mixture of cation and anion resins. The mixed bed units are offered with complete service and regeneration piping, self supporting skid foundation and chemical tanks for regeneration.

Blueoasis Technologies offers a series of pre engineered packaged softeners to meet the needs of small and medium industries. In addition, custom-built softeners are offered for larger requirements. Softeners are available as manual, semi automatic and fully automatic versions to suit client's specifications and requirements.

The water softeners utilize a strong acid cation resin in the Sodium form to exchange the hardness salts in the raw water. All Softeners are offered with complete inbuilt regeneration system and Brine tank. Both co-current and counter-current regeneration options are offered based on the inlet water quality. The typical application are for:

  • Low and medium pressure Boiler feed treatment
  • Textile dyeing processing
  • Cooling water treatment
  • Air conditioning plants
  • Food processing
  • Hotels, Hospitals and Laundry
  • Pharmaceutical

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The physico-chemical processes common treatment (coagulation and flocculation) using various chemical reagents (aluminum chloride or ferric chloride, polyelectrolytes, etc.) and generates large amounts of sludge. Increasing demands for water quality indicators and drastic change regulations on wastewater disposal require the emergence and development of processes more efficient and more effective (ion exchange, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis and chemical precipitation, electrochemical technologies). Each of these treatment methods has advantages and disadvantages.

Wastewater treatment is a process used to remove contaminants from wastewater or sewage and convert it into an effluent that can be returned to the water cycle with minimum impact on the environment, or directly reused. Pollutants in municipal wastewater (households and small industries) are removed or broken down.

Sewage treatment is the process of removing contaminants from municipal wastewater, containing mainly household sewage plus some industrial wastewater. Physical, chemical, and biological processes are used to remove contaminants and produce treated wastewater that is safe enough for release into the environment.
